What is the K.O.I Series?
Not too long ago, I moved to Austin, TX in August 2021. During my first few months living in Austin, I was creatively burned out. I got into a car crash two weeks living in Austin, was figuring myself out in the new city, was carless for two months, and was stuck with no clear goals for a while. It really upset me that I wasn't motivated to create especially in a new city like Austin. I went two months without touching my camera and needed a spark to create again. So I went to Oregon in November.
Taking a break in the Pacific Northwest helped me alot. I felt refreshed during my stay. Because of the break, I had a random idea to do a creative three part photo series and have one done by the end of 2021. Previously, I created the All of Asia project in honor of Asian American Pacific Islander month. I feel like every time I create and direct a series, it's usually related with being an Asian American creative, incorporating my culture and memories within my projects. I have always felt connected to koi fish as an Asian American and recollected the times when I was with my grandpa, feeding bread to the koi. Thank you to all of the people and businesses who are helping me with this project.
